1. Acceptance of These Terms
Law Without Lawyers is designed for consumers in the United States who are representing themselves in legal matters.
These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of the entire Law Without Lawyers website, including its educational materials, courses, document-assembly tools, products, and related services.
By visiting any part of the website, creating an account, purchasing a product, or using a document-assembly tool, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not access or use any part of the Law Without Lawyers website or any of its products or services.
2. Educational Information—Not Legal Representation
Law Without Lawyers provides educational legal information, self-help materials, and automated document-assembly tools for people representing themselves.
Law Without Lawyers is not a law firm and does not represent users. Using this website does not create an attorney-client relationship. No attorney-client privilege or duty of confidentiality arises from your use of the website or its tools.
The information provided through the website is general educational information, not legal advice tailored to your individual circumstances. The tools do not replace advice from an attorney who has reviewed your complete situation.
If you need legal advice, representation, or an evaluation of your individual rights, defenses, deadlines, options, or strategy, consult an attorney licensed in the appropriate jurisdiction.
3. User Selects the Jurisdiction and Controls the Document-Assembly Process
Law Without Lawyers’ document-assembly tools ask users to enter information and make selections. The tools use those answers to populate documents selected by the user.
You are solely responsible for determining the jurisdiction in which you intend to use any information, form, or document. You must confirm that the product is intended for that jurisdiction and that its information, forms, and procedures remain applicable and current.
You are responsible for:
- Selecting the appropriate jurisdiction, product, and documents;
- Providing complete and accurate information;
- Reviewing every completed document;
- Confirming applicable deadlines, filing fees, court rules, and local procedures;
- Signing, filing, and serving documents correctly; and
- Obtaining legal advice when you are uncertain about what to do.
The tools do not independently investigate your case, select your jurisdiction, verify your answers, review court records, monitor deadlines, file documents, serve documents, or determine whether a document is appropriate for your particular circumstances.
4. Information Entered Into Document Tools
Unless a particular tool expressly states otherwise, information entered into a Law Without Lawyers document-assembly tool is processed locally within your web browser.
Law Without Lawyers does not receive, access, transmit, or retain the answers entered into these browser-based tools. Law Without Lawyers does not maintain records of the information entered into the tools.
Completed documents are generated within the user’s browser and downloaded directly to the user’s device. They are not emailed to or stored by Law Without Lawyers.
Because Law Without Lawyers cannot see the information you enter or the documents you generate, we cannot review, correct, recover, or recreate your answers or completed documents. You are responsible for saving and protecting your downloaded files.
This section concerns information entered into the document-assembly tools. Account, purchase, payment, website-usage, and communications information may be handled separately as described in our Privacy Policy.
5. No Guarantee of Results
Law Without Lawyers does not guarantee:
- That any particular document is appropriate for your circumstances or jurisdiction;
- That a court, clerk, opposing party, agency, or other recipient will accept a document;
- That you qualify for any exemption, defense, remedy, benefit, or other form of relief;
- That using a product will extend or satisfy a deadline; or
- That you will obtain any particular legal, financial, or procedural result.
Laws, forms, filing fees, deadlines, and court procedures can change and may differ between jurisdictions. Local courts and agencies may impose additional requirements. You must verify current requirements before submitting any document.
6. Emergencies and Deadlines
Do not rely on this website as your only source for calculating or monitoring a deadline.
If you have an approaching hearing, response deadline, eviction, foreclosure sale, wage garnishment, bank levy, benefits cutoff, or other urgent legal matter, contact the applicable court or agency and consider consulting a licensed attorney immediately.
Technical problems, account-access issues, payment problems, or interruptions in website availability do not extend legal deadlines.
7. Accounts and Account Security
Certain products require an account. You agree to provide accurate account information and to keep your password confidential.
You may not share paid account access with another person, attempt to access another user’s account, circumvent access restrictions, or use the website in a way that interferes with its security or operation.
You are responsible for activity occurring through your account unless you promptly notify us of unauthorized access.
8. Purchases, Payments, and No-Refund Policy
Prices are displayed before purchase. Unless expressly identified as a subscription, purchases are one-time purchases and do not automatically renew.
Payments may be processed by an independent payment processor. Law Without Lawyers does not directly receive or store your complete payment-card number.
Because access to digital courses, materials, and tools is provided immediately, all sales are final and no refunds will be provided, except where a refund is required by applicable law.
Law Without Lawyers does not maintain records of the answers or other information entered into its browser-based document tools. Purchase and account records may be maintained separately for payment processing, access management, fraud prevention, tax, and other legitimate business purposes, as explained in the Privacy Policy.
If you experience a technical problem that prevents access to a purchased product, contact us at lawwithoutlawyers@aol.com so that we can attempt to restore access or provide the purchased material. Reporting a technical problem does not alter the no-refund policy except where otherwise required by law.
9. Personal-Use License
Purchasing or accessing a product gives you a limited, nonexclusive, nontransferable license to use it for your own personal legal matter.
You may download, print, edit, file, and serve documents generated for your own use. You may not reproduce, resell, sublicense, publish, distribute, copy, reverse engineer, or use the courses, videos, templates, software, or document systems to provide services to others.
All website content and product materials remain the property of Law Without Lawyers or their respective licensors.
10. Third-Party Services and Links
The website may use or link to third-party services, including payment processors, video providers, analytics providers, government websites, courts, and outside resources.
Law Without Lawyers does not control third-party websites and is not responsible for their availability, security, accuracy, content, or privacy practices. A link to another website does not constitute an endorsement or guarantee.
11. Website Availability and Changes
We may update, modify, replace, restrict, or discontinue website content or products. We may also update materials when laws, forms, or procedures change.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted access or that the website will always be free from errors, delays, or technical problems.
12. Disclaimer of Warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the website and its products are provided “as is” and “as available.”
Law Without Lawyers disclaims warranties that the website or any product will be error-free, uninterrupted, appropriate for every user or jurisdiction, or sufficient to achieve a particular result. Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Law Without Lawyers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of, or inability to use, the website or its products.
This includes missed deadlines, rejected filings, adverse rulings, loss of claims or defenses, loss of data, use of a product in an incorrect jurisdiction, or decisions made in reliance on educational information.
To the extent liability cannot lawfully be excluded, Law Without Lawyers’ total liability arising from a purchased product will not exceed the amount paid for that product.
These limitations do not apply where prohibited by law.
14. Prohibited Uses
You may not use the website or its products:
- For unlawful, fraudulent, deceptive, or abusive activity;
- To interfere with website security or operation;
- To gain unauthorized access to accounts, systems, products, or content;
- To distribute malware or conduct automated attacks;
- To copy, reproduce, resell, or misrepresent Law Without Lawyers materials as your own commercial product;
- To provide legal advice or legal representation to another person unless you are legally authorized to do so;
- To engage in the unauthorized practice of law or practice law without a valid license where a license is required;
- To prepare legal documents for others without any license, registration, supervision, or authorization required by applicable law; or
- To use Law Without Lawyers materials in connection with any unlawful legal-services or document-preparation business.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by California law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
Nothing in these Terms prevents a consumer from exercising rights or pursuing remedies that cannot lawfully be waived or restricted.
16. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms periodically. Updated Terms will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
Changes apply prospectively from the date they are posted. Your continued use of the website after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
17. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is determined to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in effect.
